Cayin N6ii Master Quality Digital Audio Player (A01/T01/E01/E02)
Excellent product. Keep in mind I have only had it for a couple weeks and have not tested out the blue tooth yet or finished the burn in of wither the T01 or A01 motherboards. I tested primarily using my Sennheiser HD 820's with a balanced 4.4mm Moon Audio Black Dragon cable. I used my Tia Trio's for mobile listening.
-The functionality is exactly what it needs to be--access to both streaming services (apple, Amazon HD) and even Audible as well as access to dedicated FLAAC files installed locally. Like most people I have both and carrying an iPhone for streaming along with a portable Amp is just not an option. This creates huge functionality and convenience. Lack of streaming was the biggest factor in my not choosing the N8.
-Loads quickly and good battery life (>8 hours).
-Powerful enough to drive my Sennheiser HD 820's (300 ohm) perfectly.
-Sound signature with the T01 motherboard is excellent! I only wish I bought the T01 from the get go. Great separation and sound stage and perfect compliment to my HD820's and Tia Trio's.
-Wifi is solid and set up is easy.
-Ability to swap out motherboards is amazing! The A01 sounds better with some older rock and roll and blues music, having the ability to swap it back in when needed is great. Again--huge convenience.
-OS is a bit clunky and not as intuitive as it could be.
-The A01 mobo that comes with the device is too warm for my tastes--I felt like it lacked the level of detail I enjoy in my music. It was nice for some rock and blues tunes but even then it was hit or miss for me. With electronic musics (Trentemoller, etc.) it lacked the separation and sound stage I was looking for. To the point where I was considering returning the device until I read about the T01.
-The device is relatively heavy and clunky compared to my iPhone or other mobile devices I use.
-When using the 3.5mm line out (powered speakers) and then switching back to balanced headphones the volume gets locked up and will not allow me to adjust it without power cycling the device.
-The case that comes with it is hard to get off and on and in my opinion looks/feels kind of cheap. Unfortunately there aren't many 3rd party options either.
Works every bit as well as you would hope, including with streaming services and Audible.
Amazing sound quality, build, etc.
it is world best sound
I've had the N6ii for about a month and I love it. Great UI, streams really well.
I'm mainly using it to drive my Campfire Solaris, which is a fantastic pairing with the N6ii. I also use it to drive my Utopia sometimes and it does a surprisingly good job! Highly recommend this after coming from an Oppo HA2-SE, which is a phenomenal DAC/amp, and a HiBy R6.
