Great player. Solid, sounds terrific. Only complaint - it sometimes skips for no reason. Doing business with musicteck was great as usual.
I recently started streaming Tidal in my home system. Had been using an iPod for portable listening. Now with the R3 Pro Saber, I get portable streaming Tidal that sounds just as good as on my system DACs, which are also based on ESS Saber chips. The R3 Pro Saber does this at a significantly lower cost than my DACs. Very pleased.
The Ayer does all that I need it to do, it is slower than its big brother but that is to be expected.
I love everything about it, the only thing need is an FW update for the Bluetooth, then it will be perfect, since the volume seems too low and it effects the sound a little too.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. The 'saber' R3 pro is identical in build and features as the vanilla R3 pro. Which to say for the price is excellent.
The diffence is the sound output. And just as hiby said it is more towards the exacting and neutral side. It's weird because their other sabre daps (R3, R6, R6p) have a warmth to the and the treble is softened a bit for a smoother more fuller sound.
Not so with this little dap. It's not overly analytical, but it is tuned very lean and exacting and with very extended treble. The bass and sub bass are excellent, just very natural- no extra warmth or coloring. The same goes for the mids and treble.
The sound stage to my ears is about the same as the R3 pro, maybe a little more open in the mids. But the mids are right there for you to hear all. Also the layering is a bit better.
The vanilla R3 pro is more relaxed and has a bit of added warmth, but still sounds excellent.
So if you want a bit more neutral, natural and more revealing listen the R3 pro saber is the ticket. Not night and day differences but definitely noticible sonically. I like it a lot, especially with my slightly warm iems and can.
Happy listening! both r3 pros are great. If you want fuller and a touch warmer and smooth the vanilla is awesome. If you want a leaner more exacting sound, the saber has you covered.
Oh yes of course Andrew and musicteck are awesome 👌
