It's a marvel, at it's price. UI is easy and responsive. Sound, especially through the balanced connection, is tops, with a wide soundstage, enough power for needy IEMs, and no background noise whatsoever. Highly recommended!!
Rating on the SQ would be at least 4, maybe 5 stars. Spent a week burning music to 256gb SD card, when I plugged it in it looked like over half the music is missing. After playing with the menu I was missing all of the music. Rebooted and had most of the music back, but issue repeats if I start searching for artists, genres, etc. If I play in order and only fast forward it plays OK. While playing, with my IEMs, it does sound amazing. Would really like better OS or software to fix issues, unless I just have a defective unit.
The R3 is great to use with Bluetooth. I have it connected to a bedroom stereo and I can blast music without disturbing anybody at any hour by tuning the in-house MSEB system and getting the sound exactly right. I get full bass without it passing through the concrete walls, and I play it fairly loudly at crazy hours. The R3 is a great size, not too small and slim enough to take with. Turn off the Equalizer. It only detracts. But you must use the MSEB sound system. It is a quick learn, as is the R3 operations. It is intuitive, and the HyBy programming is the best programming of any player in the market. It is so good. You can pull an album out from just playing a single track! The price is reasonable, the build is aluminum and glass. The buttons are easy to operate. It has over the air program updates. This is one of the best players out there for the money. It will satisfy any music lover and sound better than any CD player most people ever heard of. The only problem, which is universal with every single digital player I have purchased since 2016 ( I will not reveal the number of players, and my collection is completed) THERE ARE LITTLE TO NO DIRECTIONS. THERE IS LITTLE TO NO MARKETING. Everything is email, Facebook. HyBy and Shanling are very good companies and for China, are responsive, but nowhere nearly what we as consumers in the USA expect when we communicate with a "private" corporation. It has been a difficult struggle figuring all of these players out without any directions. They can sell 100X more of these players if they only knew about Marketing 101a.
