The Saber difference
The R5 standard edition gives a warm, smooth sound while the Saber edition ruthlessly cuts through the most complex of recordings to reveal detail for all to hear.
Resolution beyond its peers
With dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 flagship DAC chips on board, integrated to the motherboard using a professional QFN packaging process to maximise heat dissipation. On the R5s, we pull out all the stops to relay every musical detail extracted by the dual DAC chips.
Panasonic electrolytic caps
4 470µF Panasonic electrolytic caps round out the output stage to increase current capability for transient response.
Panasonic Hi-Polymer Tantalum POSCAPs
7 200 µF and 4 47µF capacitors are all high-end Panasonic POSCAPs with minimal ESR for maximal power supply noise rejection and pure sound.
Two OPA1642 in professional audio-grade packaging perform low-pass filter duty while two AD8397ARDZ are in the amplification stage with high-end heatsinking provided to heighten sound quality and performance stability.
Bigger than it looks
Weighing only 160g, with a 4” 16.8 million colour LCD taking up almost the whole front bezel, the R5 is as big as it is handy. With 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm balanced headphone and line outputs and up to 1040+1040mW@16Ω of drive power through 4.4mm, this tiny package is as big as almost any headphone needs.
Systemwide MSEB for your customized sound
Systemwide MageSound Eight-ball tuning board allows you to tune the player’s sound to your specific headphones and listening tastes.
Note: Systemwide MSEB available on firmware v1.6 and higher, does not effect DSD, MQA. Only processes onboard headphone outputs (i.e. excludes Bluetooth, USB, line and coaxial digital outputs)
All-format audio support
Fully supporting DSD, DXD, APE, AIFF, FLAC, WAV and WMA lossless music formats; MP3, AAC, WMA, OGG etc. lossy formats; also MQA.
MQA’s award-winning technology captures and reproduces the sound of the original studio master in a file that’s small enough to stream and download easily. HiBy R5 is capable of MQA rendering to 8x.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC
Rock-steady system programming plus 2GB RAM and 16GB storage ensures silky smooth operation and playback.
Open Android 8.1 System
The HiBy team, with its strong software team, optimized the Android 8.1 system for bit-perfect playback, using the DTA system to bypass the resampling Android audio stack for systemwide bit-perfect audio, while at the same time supporting practically all Android applications, for a smartphone-like operating experience while outclassing them in audio performance.
Bluetooth now also HiFi with UAT technology
Ultra Audio Transmission—the Bluetooth audio codec developed in-house at HiBy, supports 192kHz audio transfer with bitrate up to 1.2Mbps, while also optimizing itself for different music content. Bringing you true hi fidelity in Bluetooth.

It was a gift, well received!
Wonderful and powerful sound from a small package, the interface works great.
The sound is very detailed and never analytical. Compared to my onkyo DP-X1 it works and sounds much better, and it also has more detail than the much more expensive opus 2. The opus does sound nice because it has a great soundstage but does not have the detail of the R5s. The bass on the R5s is also much better. This is just a bargain for the price!
Musicteck is a great company to deal with. They will get my business from now on!!
Accepted return without any hesitation and quickly refunded.
I'm going to try and keep this short and concise. In the last year I've tried every small streaming dap I could get my hand on. That list includes R5s, R5, Sony nwa 105, ibasso dx160, AK sr25, Shanling m3x, lotoo paw 6000, R3pro saber, fiio M11, cayin n3 pro. Ok 2 don't do streaming but they're on here just for comparison.
For me the R5s is about as close to perfect as you can get If you want a small streaming dap. It has stellar detailed sound, above average build quality, great battery life, a great smooth UI and has perfect astetics as far as handling for my use case- small, but not too small.
Also it has a ton of power on the 4.4 balanced out and a very quiet background. There are still some niggles on using certain programs but overall the R5s delivers in spades in overall user experience. I've no trouble streaming or using BT, which I only tested shortly but it worked fine.
Sound wise it sounds pretty much better than everything on the list that I've tried the paw6000 and the m3x were close but I feel the R5s delivers a bit more detail. The dx160 is very similar sounding but I feel the overall experience is better on R5s.
This is using balanced out with akt8ie ii, ie800, rose mini 3, and 64 audio tia. With good resolving stuff the improvements really stand out from the vanilla R5- better defined bass, more resolving mids and highs and better micro details, layering and soundstage. It's a very good sounding dap and can hang and best some much more $$$ gear.
Also special mention to R3 pro saber, this little unit while not having the bass definition, mids detail and positioning of the R5s is very close also and if you don't need full Android is a steal and no doubt the best sounding dap in it's class.
Anyways if you're looking for a small full Android dap I don't think you can do better. Even if you just want a smaller dap in general you'd have to spend big bucks to best this little beast.
Musicteck and Andrew are the best- he replaced my m3x that I was having wifi issues with (well not exactly me but another head fi'er) ;) fast and painless. He's just on top of the customer service aspect :) Which is so refreshing in today's climate of crappy service.
And of course these are my personal/ subjective views ;)
I just got the R5 Saber today on review tour, and initial impressions...really sounds fantastic! I wish there was a bit more volume to the bass, but the bass still sounds very good, very layered and dynamic with great texture. Sound stage is good, but wish there was a bit more depth, but there is still good layering and width... The mids are very detailed and a bit forward, and it sounds great...vocals especially are very rich... I like the highs, too... not the greatest extension, but I find I really enjoy it...I'm listening to Paul Simon song, and the 12 string acoustic sounds amazing...hanging in 3d space with perfect air and clarity. This DAP also has great resolution and clarity, also great musicality and warmth.
It seems the R5 is greater than the sum of it's parts...not only does it do individual things well, but it combines all the elements with perfect coherency and synergy. It's a dynamic, fun sounding DAP!
