Shanling M8 Digital Audio Player with Free Leather Case
Like most people on here I’ve had my fair share of DAPs over the last few years: Sony, Fiio, iBasso, Hiby, Shanling, Lotoo etc and I’ve gradually worked my way up the chain from the budget offerings to the TOTL units. I’m currently running a Lotoo PAW6000, Hiby R6 2020, and the Shanling M8 but I’ve also owned the iBasso DX220 Max, Fiio M15, Hiby R8 and Astell&Kern Kann Alpha. The Shanling M8 still has a few firmware issues that need to be ironed out, the biggest bugs relating to volume glitches and MQA playback, but in terms of pure enjoyment, sound quality, dynamics and detail retrieval Shanling have absolutely nailed it with the M8. I simply put this unit into Turbo mode, attach my Dan Clark Aeon Flow Closed 2 headphones, hit the play button and I’m instantly transported to another world. I know this whole hobby is very subjective but the M8 is the closest thing to audio heaven that I’ve yet to experience in a portable rig and I have faith that the firmware issue will be resolved in due course. The icing on the cake has to be the exceptional level of service that Andrew delivers at Musicteck. He really is a top bloke and nothing is too much trouble when it comes to looking after his customers. I wouldn’t even consider going anywhere else for my personal audio needs
Once I ordered Shanling M8 , I just want to try and see how this Chinese brand could do comparing to other brands e.g. LPGT/Cayin N8/Hiby R6 2020 and Luxury&Precision LP6Ti&P6 I've owned. Anyway when I receive it today , I was surprised by its sound and extremely surprised!
Really great job from Shanling even if box is too heavy lol
Thank you Andrew for an impressive Xmas gift in 2020. Recommended!
This is by far the best DAP that I have had this year among the most major brands. The sound is full-bodied and analog/tube-like but yet all the details are there with a very deep soundstage. Due to slightly softer treble, you don't get extreme soundstage width (and shimmer) compared to other Sabre DAC based DAPs. Instead, you have a very balanced stage, lot's of air between the instruments, just a fantastic musical experience overall. My favorite N6ii/A01 sounded flat and veiled by comparison.
To top it off, the Android experience is very good. Just as smooth as N6ii. Solid Wifi/BT performance. No noise coming from wireless devices. Solid performer!
Phenomal sound. Nice UI. Great match for my Noble K10 and couldn’t be happier with the M8.
I got exposed to the Shanling brand with the M5s and their sound tuning was just right for me. I still use the Sony WM1-A, but sometime the less warm and more reference turning from the M5s is what get me to listen for a longer session. I have also been impressed with the level of support Shanling has shown for their product lines, including their promptness to your questions & concerns for their products and their regular firmware updates to address issues and improve on features and usability on their various released DAPs. When I heard about their M8 release, I had enough trusts in Shanling to become one of their early adopters. The M8 is a bit bigger than the Sony WM1-A, but its sound signature is leaning more on the reference side and the sound stage is just simply perfect for me. Vocal is clear and close and the bass is simply divine on the appropriate music tracks. With the latest firmware update from Mr. Walkman, my Sony WM1-A sounds very wholesome and a very nice warm texture. However, the M8 lifts my listening experience to a higher level compares to WM1-A and brings a smile to my face as I let myself get lost into my music. As usual, MusicTeck is awesome and a great place to purchase great audiophile products. Congratulations on a job well done Shanling!
