Cayin N6ii Replaceable Audio Motherboard R01
I finally received my R01 motherboard, my previous board is the E02 which I loved for the detailed and natural sound it produced with good extension, a very satisfying sound. One thing though the E02 only supports the 4.4mm balanced output limiting the headphone use. At that time I was using it with the Amazing Fostex T60rp that helped to reveal the natural timbre and detail from the Cayin. Now to the R01. Immediately I installed it, turned it on and played the Beethoven violin concerto with Gluzman as soloist, I was compleletly sturned and surprised by the wealth of additional detail depth natural timbres and spaceousness from the player, even the sound stage was bigger (if you know the Fostex is not the greatest when it comes to sound staging but it improved with this R01 Board) this was first impression..
Then my HIFIMAN Ananda Headphones arrived then I could experience the huge soundstage and bass extension that the R01 was offering, then very accurate layering and hugely improved articulation you can follow the instrumental relationship very well. Instruments have more body, for example a violin playing you could hear the string type used and the actual sound of the wood, not just the skeleting sound that is accepted as the violin sound.
Also the dynamics and authority in the sound wow...
Later moving to the HIFIMAN ARYA, a much more refined Headphone than the Ananda and more magic surfaced... now for this I am using none optimal cables... Arctic Cables are yet to arrive... but the Resolving power of this combination is amazing clear rich natural 3D trebles, mid range and bass wow!
Now a bit on the Headphones. The Fostex T60RP are truly amazing I would say the highs are truly pure sweet and detailed, to truly beat this I had to get to the HIFIMAN Arya! The HIFIMAN Ananda was better than the Fostex T60RP in bass and slam but could not match the Hi frequency sweetness and coherence..to be fair neither the Ananda nor the Arya were played through very good cables, but I think the Cables on the Fostex were good enough.
Back again to the CAYIN R01, On Dominic Miller's Absinthe album 4th track "La Petite Reine" Just Guiter and drum, you can now hear exactly what part of the drum surface is struck and the shape of the drum as the Sound is vibrating it. In the Dutilluex, Lutoslawski Cello Concerto disk with Christian Poltera as Cello soloist, the richness and detail of his Cello and the overall authority that the orchestral playing had was revealed with great detail layering resolve and power... I must say I have listened to this recording a lot but my head swelled in excitement. Then going to Emmy Lou Harris Cow Girl's Prayer CD, I was moved to tears try track 4 you don't know me ! or track 10 I hear a call...Emmy Lou's voice has a rich quality that sometimes has an overtone like drawing a cello bow over very smooth class ... this was revealed bare... with the HIFIMAN Arya this recording will almost make you have an out of body experience.
by the way please play highest quality recordings like lossless HiRes FLAC etc to truly enjoy what this player has to give.
Just great !!!
Truly amazing board. Timbre, black background, power, lightning fast transients, dynamic range- all best I’ve heard. Like real music, no “digitalness" to the sound.
Great w/ all types of music. Also great with my older not the best fidelity tracks from the 60-80s.
Maybe (I haven't heard) the Luxury & Precision stuff is a tad better but $$$ wise and UI of the N6ii make it a no brainer for me.
N6ii + R01: that is the end game portable setup for me. Amazing natural and clear sound! I am 100% satisfied with this purchase. Fast delivery, will deal again. One of the best audio devices supplier.
