Ok, so I had been eyeing up the Hiby R6 Pro for a while. Like all addictions, my gateway drugs had been cowon A3, S9 and then Astell & Kern AK Jr. They were fun but my audio itch was still to be scratched. I then turned to Fiio X5 3rd Gen. It was audio drug love haze at first. Android - check. Twin Dacs with great sound - check. DNLA - check. Great looks - check. Soon I had the dock on order and some decent cans to boot. I was out of control. And for a while it was fun. I thought entry level DAPS were enough for me. It was in denial. Then, as I said, I saw the Hiby R6 Pro. Suddenly the X5 looked dated and after reading teasing reviews, the sound flat and uninspiring. I wanted more. After an age of waiting for release, I sat through Xmas and Boxing Day sales, dry sweats and DTs. I thought I had my urge to splurge on an R6 under control. But alas, release came around and I knew I'd cave. However, it just so happened that New Zealand's sole supplier seemed to get no stock. No hookup, no product. In desperation, I scoured the internet and found Musicteck. A few emails to Andrew and before I knew it one was shipped out in record time. After waiting for an age for customs I eventually got my package. Listening out of the box I nearly cried. I know sound is personal and subjective, but this was a huge departure from any of my previous drugs of choice. Beautiful seperation, punchy rounded bass, crystal highs. I was in heaven. Thanks, musicteck, for standing on the corner and taking the $26 from my hand.
This is my first dap and so far I am loving it. I measure every other dap against the R6 Pro as my benchmark. I also own FiiO x7 mark ii, Sony nw-wm1a. The R6 Pro bests the other two in build and sound quality. The Pro is a power beast. It has 100 volume steps and I can't go beyond 34 on a normal day. The Sony on the other hand has 120 steps but I have to crank it up to 100-110 to feel the music. The FiiO is in between. The Pro does almost everything right in my own opinion. I am a hip hop person naturally but now this dap is broadening my music horizon. I now listen to contemporary rock (3 Chord Trick by Legacy is my favorite) and country music (Blake Shelton is my favorite). This is what a quality music player can do and the R6 Pro delivers. I now listen to music genres I never thought I would listen to. Native DSD on this player is yayaya. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an excellent dap, you will not regret it. Bought mine from MusicTeck through Amazon and let me tell you MusicTeck will go above and beyond to answer every question you might have. And shipping is like speed of light.
I really enjoy this unit. I returned my A&K Kann because the user experience was terrible. It was laggy, and had no support for Tidal offline. The tidal app was buggy and skipped when the screen was off. It was so limited. The Hiby is fast, has the play store out of the box and the R6 Pro drives my Focal Elear and Shure 846 nicely, especially via balanced. I did not detect a difference in sound quality between balanced and se (which surprised me.) The sound is good or slightly better than good. The Kann does have slightly better sound out of the box. The Hiby is better in every other area hands down for a better price. Buy the R6 pro here, awesome seller and very helpful. No complaints....none.
First off, i want to thank Musicteck for their amazing customer service, one of the best companies ive dealt with in terms of communication and service. With that out of the way lets talk about this Hiby R6 Pro.
I always wanted a digital audio player that could sound good, drive any headphone, and up until recently, have 4.4mm. it started with the ipod classics, to the sansa clip, then sony a17, and when i purchased the zx300 i thought to myself, finally! well not really, my LG v40 sounded better, and could also drive better despite running out of the 4.4mm port. i thought "NOOOOOO!" i wasnt done, and i dint want to spend over 1 grand for a player and any option you look at that faces the R6 Pro is over 1.5k. So when this thing was announced and i knew i had to have it, and finally i can stop looking. this player checks every box, plus has android for the occasional tidal spotify stream, youtube and reddit haha. love it
