I own several DAPs, they just can't beat the convivence of dongles. So I bought several, from $100 ones to $400 ones. W4 is probably the only dongle you need. I also have the W2, bought from MusicTeck as well. W4 is an improvement from every aspect of W2: better details, lower power consumption, higher output power, more expanded stage. The W2 is still a very good device. But the fact that it is discontinued right now and there is W4 existing makes W2 an obvious inferior choice to W4. If you have the budget for W4, or simply want to try the best that a dongle could offer, you will not be disappointed by this device. Also, this dongle is beautifully made, the original leather case is very pretty too.
Like always, MusicTeck is a great website to buy from. Shipment is always so fast and more importantly, the packaging is really nice: always wrapped in bubbles and tightly sealed.
It's been a long time since I was really impressed by some DAC products after 9038pro and AK4499 came out and flipped the desktop DAC market. Yeah, for the portable side of the game, an implementation based on CS43131 is also a significant improvement but somewhat underwhelming without reaching the threshold of theoretically comprehensible optimum. Kudos to L&P for striving above and beyond, even doing their own SIP to present the best CS43131 implementation with a measured SINAD of over 119 dB.
P.S. The leather case is kind of underwhelming compared to the device.
First, the shipping via DHL is escellent.
And, now, via Iphone+Roon ARC, the sound of a 300 ohms earbuds is perfect to my ears, at the good level.
The L&P sound is there !
I own the LP6ti7AE and my listening pleasure continues with the W4.
The same universe, analog and bright, precise and harmonious.
Stellar spec'ed dongle and MusicTeck shipped it to Europe really fast.
I am big fan of a good sound on the go in a small form factor. That's why I decided to buy another USB dongle. Before I had Lotoo Paw S1 and L&P W2.The first one was quite weak for the sound I was looking for but the W2 was a great success.
I am saying that I was, because now I have purchased from this great website the flagship L&P W4.
This is 10% or more better then the W2 in every single aspect including instrument separation, details, soundstage, sub bass.
I can't compare it with the other high end RU7 as I haven't heard it, but the W4 is very detailed, neutral with a black background, it uses very little battery power from your phone and is very powerful for it's size.
I really recommend it to anyone that is interested in quality powerful sound in a small device.
I love this dap , for a while I was thinking to utilize my old lg v30 as dap but I was not happy with limited ability to customize sound . This R4 has eq and mseb and I can taylor sound exactly the way I like it . Hiby music app is great but you can use any android media player in it . I also like that I can watch Youtube videos with it . I loaded 512gb micro sd card with few hundreds albums in flac and some in mp3 and everything works great . Balanced output works great and I had no problem driving my lsa hp2 headphones with it . I use 3.5mm output with campfire atlas and Im very happy with sound Im getting . Some users reported overheating but I guess they have early production models because mine never get hot only slightly warm over couple hours of use .
IMHO, these are absolutely the best sounding IEMs I have used to date. This includes: (The Empire Ears Raven, Astell&Kern x Empire Ears NOVUS, Aroma Audio Fei Wan, UM Multiverse Mentor, Noble Audio Viking Ragnar, and Noble Audio Ronin). They easily punch above their price point in terms of sound quality characteristics and capabilities.
The Timbre/tonality is at the very least on par with the Aroma Audio Fei Wan. The dual BA custom "Diablo" bass drivers sound like TOTL quality Dynamic Drivers. Unless someone told me I could have sworn these were using top notch Dynamic Drivers. The sub-bass is the best I've heard. Nothing has beaten the Unique Melody Multiverse Mentor in terms of creating a holographic soundstage that feels like it surrounds you a full 360 degrees, but Macbeth's imaging and holography are TOTL god tier level, The treble detail is also TOTL without any sibilance whatsoever. The customized dual Sonion BCDs that only work in the Mids to High-Mids region creates a truly unique effect for vocals.
I don't want to get into a debate whether different conductivity metals in different audio cables can change or improve the sound over the stock cable. I'm simply here to relay my own personal auditory experience. Having said that:
The Stock Eletech copper cable is very good, it provides plenty of detail and gives a slightly warm tonality to Macbeth's sound. However, Macbeth sounds best to me with either the Eletech "Sonnet of Adam" cable or if you can swing it, the Eletech "Ambition" cable that is a custom-built IEM cable just for Macbeth in an effort to bring out Macbeth's absolute best sound. I personally believe Sonnet of Adam is a perfect middle ground in terms of sound quality improvements and pricing. It provides roughly 60-70% of what "Ambition" does, but for $1,300 cheaper. What I hear when listening to the stock cable and SOA cables back-to-back is that SOA enhances the Vocals by making them a little more present, it improves the clarity, the tonality, and the soundstage characteristics. I believe it considerably improves upon Macbeth's treble presence and it's resolution by giving it stronger detail retrieval abilities. This alone is impressive given how much detail retrieval Macbeth already has with just the stock cable. The primary areas of clarity improvement I felt were in the high-mids to treble regions. The timbre produced with the stock cable is already TOTL, but I think SOA improves it even further.
In the end, Macbeth will truly be "the" special and unique pair of flagship IEMs to have for the foreseeable future. You can check out user experiences for Macbeth along with in-depth user reviews by respected forum members on the head-fi.org website. Lastly, Your Mileage May Vary, and this is just a personal opinion of my experience with my pair of Macbeth IEMs.
Thanks!
Very real, wide sound that is coming at your head in layers. Of course, I'm coming from an entry-mid DAP, the iBasso DX170, where tone is there about 70% and space around the instruments not so much. So, yes, what the audiophiles write about is true: there is more atmosphere and less veiling of sound. Also, the tube hybrid mode is very useful in hearing different perspectives of the sound decay and harmonic partials that the ear picks up, though this may be dependent on the headphones being used. Basically, the tubes add more air and bloom.
This Iem is a little dry, with less bass i expected. However the iem have a good technicality and precision with an ample scene
