Technologies

At Quill Acoustics, innovation is at the heart of our approach to acoustic design, driver development, and overall product application. Every product features either a uniquely designed acoustic structure or an innovative driver, ensuring that each item in our lineup tells its own distinct story. We are committed to delivering fresh, original experiences instead of rehashing familiar ones.

Trio-Pass Multi-layering Phase System

Our Trio-Pass technology is built on a purely acoustic framework of nested ducts, developed through extensive calculations and experimentation. By employing multi-stage filtering, it effectively eliminates unwanted overtones and residual sounds, ensuring the most accurate reproduction of the sound phase. Unlike traditional methods that adjust phase by limiting output, Trio-Pass maintains the natural timbre and sound density while precisely restoring phase accuracy.

Q.Force Ultra-Low Frequency Dynamic Driver

The Q.Force driver is a custom ultra-low frequency dynamic driver featuring a Ti-PU composite diaphragm and a uniquely engineered cavity structure. Recognizing that tuning low frequencies is highly subjective, our design ensures that bass remains both powerful and articulate during fast-paced playback. By refining the diaphragm and adopting a relatively flat driver front, we keep low-frequency decay sounds naturally controlled, offering both punch and clarity.

Q.A.D – Quill Patented Micron-Grade Low-Pass Acoustic Duct

In collaboration with Fudan University, we developed Q.A.D, a patented technology designed through rigorous calculation and testing to determine the optimal duct length and inner diameter. This resulted in a custom, micron-level low-frequency duct that, when paired with the Q.Force driver, minimizes distortion at 80Hz without sacrificing the natural decay and rebound. After testing over 70 different combinations, our team finalized the ideal parameters, delivering a unique, layered low-frequency experience.

“Silken” Planar Magnetic Driver

The “Silken” planar magnetic driver, designed by our Chief Engineer John, is a testament to our commitment to quality sound. Drawing inspiration from traditional full-size planar units, Silken offers natural sound reproduction and fuller imaging compared to the common 6.5mm micro planar units in today’s balanced armature designs. Its innovative conductive layer mapping and magnet structure eliminates the need for additional internal resistance, enhancing its sensitivity. Although driving ultra-high frequencies can be challenging for planar designs, Silken’s unique tonality and exceptional performance set it apart in our product lineup.

John Guo, The Founder of Quill Acoustics

John Guo has dedicated many years to the HiFi manufacturing and music production industries, accumulating a wealth of cross-industry experience. As a nationally certified acoustic engineer in China and a guitarist accredited by the Shandong Artists Association, his early career as a guitarist and professional music producer forged an inseparable bond with the music world. His academic background in acoustics during his university years seamlessly merged his passion for music with HiFi manufacturing.

John’s career began at Tencent, where he joined the game music production team and contributed to the post-production of the soundtrack for the popular game Honor of Kings. During his time at Tencent, he had the opportunity to work with various renowned studio monitor brands, which inspired him to deepen his knowledge of electroacoustics. In 2016, John left Tencent to launch his independent studio, providing design solutions for headphone and speaker drivers to well-known manufacturers such as GoerTek, AURUM CANTUS, and Beyma.

In 2021, John played a pivotal role in developing his first dynamic driver for in-ear monitors (IEMs), earning widespread recognition within the industry. Simultaneously, he embarked on the design and development of IEMs, aiming to create specialized acoustic structures that enhance the unique sonic character inherent in HiFi IEMs. Combining the imaginative spirit of a musician with the precision of a scientist, his patented technologies—including Trio-Pass and Q.A.D—are as complex as they are innovative. Yet, throughout the rigorous acoustic testing process, John maintained uncompromising standards, achieving micrometer-level precision in acoustic components. In 2023, he founded Quill Acoustics, and by early 2024, began developing the first commercial HiFi IEM, the Satin. From the initial prototype to the final product, the Satin underwent three complete overhauls, culminating in eight distinct versions before the design was finalized. The final prototype of Satin was unveiled at the 2025 CanJam NYC, earning widespread acclaim from audiophiles and firmly establishing the Quill Acoustics brand.

About Quill Acoustics

Quill Acoustics is dedicated to developing and applying proprietary acoustic technologies and HiFi IEM products. We strive to infuse every Quill product with our robust acoustic expertise, guided by the following core principles:

HiFi is More Than Just Sound Reproduction:
HiFi is often understood as the “precise reproduction of original sound.” Yet, for Quill—as well as many enthusiasts in the field—that definition is too simplistic and lacks the element of challenge. For us, the true joy of developing IEMs lies in projecting our creative vision and musical aesthetics into every unit. Designing an IEM is as much an art as writing a book or painting a picture. When you wear a pair of Quill Acoustics headphones and envision the music colored by our unique touch, our mission is accomplished.

IEMs Are Not a Compromise:
While it is true that the driver size in IEMs may seem inherently limited compared to full-size headphones or two-channel systems, their internal design offers unique opportunities. Within a compact cavity, we can craft intricate microstructures that reveal a distinctive sonic aesthetic. We see ourselves as architects, constructing our own utopia within the tiny confines of each headphone. Every subtle structural modification can lead to significant sonic transformations. From an engineer’s perspective, the process of designing and developing IEMs is utterly captivating, and we are eager to share this passion and relentless pursuit of sound perfection with every Quill listener.

Unique by Design:
We reject the notion of rehashing the same themes. For those of us who have dedicated years to the music industry, few things are as disheartening as hearing more and more “industrialized” music that relies on the same chord progressions, similar rhythms, and interchangeable lyrics to produce countless nearly identical tracks. Every member of the Quill team still harbors an innate passion for true artistic expression. We believe that every Quill product should prioritize artistry over industrial uniformity. We don’t aspire to become an audio giant like Harman Kardon or Bose; instead, our sole ambition is to deliver a truly unparalleled sound experience to our listeners.
