Love the support to my phone music without eating up the battery of the phone. Quite efficient.
As I sit listening to War on Drugs, I am reminded of not just how much I missed my Lotoo for 3+ weeks. My cables became compromised (my best cat) right when my PAW S2 arrived.
And so I am comfortably at Vol 47 on Flat with the new PAW S2. Easy to compare from a razor-sharp memory, despite the absence from my PAW S1. I read several reviews that leaned me into asking Andrew @ MusicTeck a couple questions, but he wisely did not sell me on these, and rather let me read a more detailed review by an expert greater than I.
In a word, the PAW S2 is brilliant. Sure, louder. But the music is more forward on my Unique Melody MEST than before. I did not have issues with my S1 amp or my UM MEST. But as a guy into tech, you learn to grow into new shoes each year or so. The S2 will drop you to your knees a bit. The sheer presence of texture will bring it.
It is well far more warm, textured, deep and fast in the sub-bass and I’m hearing very thinly audible nuance at the high end on the same songs I’ve heard 20x before. It’s reaching me, subconsciously, deeper into the music than before.
And maybe the best thing I can say for this amp is “you don’t know what you don’t know.” What you are not hearing on the S1 you don’t know is actually there. I hope that helps. I’m just a guy who loves his instruments, his vocals — this passes through my ears like the fingernails of a lover scratching my back. It feels like THAT.
Purchased thru Amazon and highly impressed with the powerhouse sound! Makes my HD6XX sing and removed the veil. My favorite eq is Rock. Simple plug and play with my iPad Pro and laptop. Firmware update was a bit confusing, but I figured it out without bricking the PAW S2.
I already had a Lotoo PAW S1 and when I saw this I decided to take the leap and upgrade to the Lotoo PAW S2. Overall I am very impressed and glad I made the choice to upgrade.
I've spent just a week with my new Lotoo PAW S2, but let me share with you my initial impressions.
After trying out some audiophile-grade IEMs and DAPs recently, I realized my need for stepping up my game.
So I decided to begin with this amazing dongle DAC-Amp.
First of all, Lotoo PAW S2 has a premium look and feel to it.
As for its sound quality and features, I would add in that it has exceeded my expectations.
The S2 was supposed to feed my IEMs only, but in practice it offered more than enough output power being paired up with my full-sized though not so demanding Pioneer SE-MS5T headphones.
It's performing well with my Android smartphone. And the remote control buttons are really useful.
The only thing I'm worried about is the power consumption. Because in the high gain mode and the volume being set on ~ 50%, the S2 has drained the power of my Galaxy S9+ by approximately 30% in just one hour or so...
The smartphone is almost 3 years in use, and perhaps the battery is not as strong as it was back in the day, but you will need some true powerhouse if you wish to get a long listening time while on the go.
I've yet to test the newly added Line-Out feature, but even now I'm already impressed by this little thing.
All in all, it's a good middle ground between such a miserable source as the most of modern smartphones are, and a mid-tier DAP.
Given the S2 is one of the class-leading gadgets by the end of 2021, it's nice to see this direction chosen by many producers of hi-fi audio gear.
Thanks to Andrew and the whole MusicTeck Team for the possibility to feel some new emotions from my favorite music and for the great customer service.
Wish you all success in the coming 2022.
